I thought the file was not found because our color settings etc. no longer worked and I found those lines in strace indicating that the file was looked for in the wrong place. But putting it there didn't work either, also not after correctly setting the new theme option. Then we moved it back to /usr/share/X11/app-defaults/XScreenSaver and then it works. So, the lines about the file not being found in /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/XLock are irrelevant.
