[Bug 1177008] New: Major Memory Leak on Any Snapshot from 20200914 to Current
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1177008 Bug ID: 1177008 Summary: Major Memory Leak on Any Snapshot from 20200914 to Current Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: adamska156@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- After about a half hour of the system running there is a rapid memory leak causing the entire system to lock up once swap is full within minutes. I haven't been able to track the source of the leak on my own. Sometimes latte-dock will show high RAM usage, but killing it only delays the inevitable. Other times Firefox RAM usage is high too, but I can confirm this continues to happen with both not running. Not sure how to proceed here since I can't upgrade my system past 20200910. Also my swapiness is set to 1 since I'm on an SSD, so my system shouldn't be using swap this much anyway. It seems to be favoring swap regardless of how much RAM is used. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't think it is, but I don't have much experience hunting down memory related bugs. Memory continues to build after killing firefox. Also this problem was posted about before the snapshot where this starts occurring which is 20200914. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

There's only one of that process and the problem persists after killing that also. No idea how to pinpoint the cause. Nothing is showing high ram usage or an unusual number of processes besides firefox and lattedock and it continues to rise even if those are killed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

It seems that the issue was a gif wallpaper plugin for KDE. After not using the plugin the problem is fixed.
Which plugin? Can you reproduce the issue easily?
It was this plugin https://store.kde.org/p/1339104
However, after completely removing the plugin from my system and reinstalling the latest version of it, it appears to be fixed. Haven't had a problem with it in days now. I can't reproduce it anymore since doing that.
Ok. It's been a week now without it appearing again, so it's probably not reproducible anymore. Closing as WORKSFORME. If it appears again, please reopen. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
