[Bug 852009] New: GNOME 3.10 occasional freeze, requiring hard reset
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=852009 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=852009#c0 Summary: GNOME 3.10 occasional freeze, requiring hard reset Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nenad.latinovic@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/31.0.1650.57 Safari/537.36 I've had a problem with Gnome 3.10 freezing so hard, it requires a hard reset. I tried ctrl-alt-del and other combinations, which didn't work. The music player keeps playing in the background, the mouse is responsive, but i can't do anything on the screen. I tried to leave it for an hour or so to try and settle down, but the screen is still locked. So, music plays in the background, the mouse is responsive, but the screen is locked. This happens usually when i throw a few programs for the computer to handle, but it shouldn't have a problem with them, since i have 4 gigs of ram, and a dual core 2.1 ghz processor and integrated graphics from intel. I tried to run apps via the terminal to get an output, but i can't access the terminal once it freezes. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Rhythmbox or Music playing 2.Doing anything 'heavier', like having a music player, web browser and file manager open at the same time. 3. Actual Results: Computer freezes, music plays, mouse is responsive, but the screen is locked/frozen and i can't click on anything. Expected Results: The computer should work normally without a glitch whatsoever. It happened with various themes, including the default Adwaita theme. I have an intel processor - dual core 2.1 ghz, 4gb of ram and integrated intel graphics on a fujitsu esprimo-mobile v6535 laptop. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If yes: does the problem still occur? If not updated yet: can you please apply that update and verify if it solves your issue as well? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

First of all, thanks for your response. I installed the updated version of the driver, but it froze one more time today. If it happens again, i'll let you know. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can you please test with http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dimstar:/bnc849913/openSUSE_... and install the updates from there, to verify if this would help you? (sorry for the trials.. but it's a bit dark matter... without seeing the issue myself on my systems) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The system seems to work with less hiccups every day. In that matter, should i wait to see if the problem occurs again, and then try the update, or no harm will be done anyway if i install it now? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Difficult one.. so the 'less' hiccups indicates that the Intel Driver update indeed did help you.. would be good to see / hear on how bad the impact still is, as otherwise it's difficult to say if the update helped in any way. On the other hand: the update should not cause any harm.. and if it would, then you having it installed could of course help identify the issues. In the end: both ways are valid approaches.. as long as in any future reply it is stated which of the setups we now deal with. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

After suffering some auto logout issues, relating to X, I decided to give this update a try. Will report if anything else goes wrong. Otherwise i'll just try switching from SNA to UXA. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
