https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=783656 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=783656#c0 Summary: Waiting for device on bootup after updating packages Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: jarlgjessing@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1 I have been running 12.2 since it cam out. No big issues so far. Until last night when I installed updates. Then my machine could not boot up. I cannot reproduce the problem since this is my working machine, but I tried installing and updating many times same result. The packages I suspect is the mdmadm + lvm2 (if I uncheck these then I can update the rest without problems) It say that it cannot find the disks some very UUID's, but the ID's are the same as before I updated. As as mentioned it say waiting for device, asks if I want to fallback to another one that also does not work For me this is very critical because there is no way in h.... I can rely on the automated update since I need to uncheck these packages Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install opensuse 2. Let Apper update machine 3. Reboot Actual Results: Machine cannot start Expected Results: It should start The machine is a HP Envy 17 2090eo (you should be able to find all HW details) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That is affected by the 'broken mdadm update' mentioned. I understand that you have managed to revert the update and have a working system again - is that correct. If you like you could install the update again, then edit /lib/mkinitrd/scripts/setup-md.sh and change eval echo \"\$md_conf_$md\" >> $tmp_mnt/etc/mdadm.conf towards the end to eval echo -e \"\$md_conf_$md\" >> $tmp_mnt/etc/mdadm.conf (i.e. add '-e'). Then run 'mkinitrd' and reboot should work. It will then continue to work as the next update will install exactly this fix. Alternately just wait for the next update. Thanks for the report and apologies for the inconvenience. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It took about 45 minutes to install and update and voila my system was up and running againg. I love openSUSE now 3 days after I filed a bug report there is a fix. No reason to apologize. I'm just lukcy that you fixed it so fast. Should I test it before you release it so you dont release an updatthat might not work? Is it possible that I get updates before you release them. So I could test it on my hw? Just a suggestion -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It would be difficult to arrange though. Running "Factory" or "Tumbleweed" is the best way to try bleeding edge stuff, though I'm not sure this bug would have got there any quicker than in for to openSUSE:12.2:Update. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
