[Bug 479386] New: Sax could be more powerful in setting of keyboard
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=479386 Summary: Sax could be more powerful in setting of keyboard Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: All OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ilfirin.ms@gmail.com QAContact: sax2-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; cs-CZ; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009012700 SUSE/3.0.6-0.1.2 Firefox/3.0.6 Recently, another guy on forum was asking, how to properly set multimedia keys on keyboard. And I was wander, Yast/Sax cannot handle this. Yes there are some utilities to do the job, but I think, this low level setting thing belongs to Yast, where most of users expects it. If it could handle acpi keys too, it would be perfect :-) Reproducible: Always -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Multimedia keyboard layouts can already be selected in SaX2 GUI. Mapping ACPI events to keyboard events is outside of the scope of SaX2. It only writes xorg.conf. Nothing more. Most users nowadays configure keyboard behaviour in the desktop. There's nothing to do in SaX2 IMHO.
Desktop enviroments have their settings, but keys must be mapped. Sax2 told, my keyboard is Microsoft Pro. No, it is not. But multimedia keys is properly working. But how do I now? I checked it (Yast/SAX not helping, the test is just is j ->"j"? Yes, so everything is working). Nothing in Yast/Sax - the basic setup tool could tell me, "key you have pressed is XF86AudioPlay". And what if it is not? Where I changed it (fix bad layout detection). Nowhere in Yast, go deep in X settings (ok, its xev and xmodmap but.. you know). I awaits it in gentoo, but in SUSE where is tool to set keyboard and is targeted for home/desktop users it's bad IMHO. So Yes, it's not sharply xorg.conf but where else this should be? (and I'll be dissapointed, if you replied "nowhere, end users should perfectly know X and their tools"). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
