This bug was done long before upstram had decided to fix the deeper problem.
Yes, that's why I said "with the benefit of hindsight". Even if the WORKSFORME resolution was originally valid, my opinion is that it should be changed to FIXED (at least when the update is released).
Hold in mind that "/etc/init.d/foo status" uses at last but not least "systemctl status".
You don't need to remind me of that; I already stated it in previous comments.
You may test this as I've requested ;)
