And where do you get the error? Is it a dialog? Is it in some log? Do you know what application is outputting this message? Are you sure it's GNOME-related?

Then I recommend to remove java-1_6_0-openjdk and install java-1_6_0-sun (you'd need to have non-free repository enabled, or use Java:sun:Factory build service project). Openjdk web plugin is not mature.

I don't think epiphany problem is related - it uses a different rendering engine - webkit, so please move the epiphany problem to another bug. Maintainer of epiphany is gnome-maintainers@suse.de (and in buildservice is it maw@pobox.com, so you can add him to CC). About firefox - sorry, I missed to point you to documentation. I would expect that if everything hangs you can go to the terminal, hit Ctrl-C, get a prompt in gdb where you can type thread apply all bt bt This should give you a long list with all firefox threads. I have no idea on the back trace. I used the Safari on windows , firefox and Epiphany on Ubuntu10.04 to open the java website , they all work fine. Furthermore, Firefox has just been updated to 3.6.6 in the update repo, which changes its behaviour for Java, Flash and Quicktime plugins and now starts them as separate processes so they (supposedly) can't hang or crash the browser. After the update, I found that while existing tabs were still responsive, it was not possible to open any additional tabs in Firefox until after I had used System Monitor to kill all Firefox-related processes and re-started the browser. I also got a script timeout warning on one of the test sites.
