There were problems with GTK IM modules and fixed after 11.4 release. The fix-update is in process. After updating packages, you'll have updated /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk*.immodules files, too. Check the content whether it contains the scim im properly. We still got a bug report that scim-bridge doesn't work with Firefox. ibus is working fine with Firefox on my machine, BTW. So, let's see how is on yours... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Still the same problem. Removed SCIM and install ibus as requested. However, I've never used ibus. Googled and understand that this should work. # zypper in ibus ibus-gtk ibus-qt ibus-pinyin # gtk-query-immodules-2.0-64 > /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk64.immodules Rebooted, saw ibus but unable to type chinese as there is not input method available. Update:
ibus is working now in Firefox.
OK.
Still cannot type anything into LibreOffice.
I don't remember a problem, but anyway I'll try later in my office in the next week.

Help for fixing bugs :)

I thought ibus is the default for Chinese on 11.4. Or not? There is a priority list of each IM per locale. See /etc/X11/xim.d/* symlinks. We can adjust this in the package. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You mean ibus is already installed/configured when installing openSUSE? If that's the case, I didn't noticed and I could have messed up the settings without looking clearly... Ooops.

Well, I'm not sure, too, as I never tested a fresh install in Chinese locale (not update). But, if it's not, we should fix it. Even both SCIM and IBUS are installed, we should take IBUS in a higher priority as default, I think. Anyway, this is a thing for openSUSE 11.5. BTW, I heard that SCIM problem with Firefox could be solved by the update of Firefox, too. This is worth to try. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Reason: Normal user (especially students) without LibreOffice is like you guys/gals without your C/C++/Perl/Python .... I've switch quite a few computers for families to Debian just to make sure that homework can be passed up on time.
