This has been proven to be true by compiling the same version version and installing it. Then reboot or /etc/init.d/gpm stop/start. Of course Yast2 > Hardware > Mouse is set and worked in X. It has failed to work correctly in a console in all of the 11.4 versions I see you are currently using gpm-1.20.6-462.2.i586.rpm which fails. Replaced with my rpm and it works. This is a 11.4 M2 system straight of the NET. CD openSuSE-NET-i586-Build-0837.iso ~> rpm -qa | grep gpm gpm-devel-1.20.6-462.2.i586 <- openSuSE's RPM-devel gpm-1.20.6-114v2.i686 <-My version that works If I gave you the wrong version - sorry! Please note that I use a console more than Xwindows. So to solve the problem I have installed from source gpm-1.20 and things work correctly.
