[Bug 743007] New: graphical artifact with Nvidia driver: erroneous transparency
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=743007 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=743007#c0 Summary: graphical artifact with Nvidia driver: erroneous transparency Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: andreas_nordal_4@hotmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=472390) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=472390) graphical artifact with Nvidia + Celestia: Transparent Saturn User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1 The proprietary Nvidia driver from the repository for OpenSuse 12.1 causes many objects in OpenGL programs to become transparent. Manually installing the same version (290.10) using nvidia's installer instead fixes the issue. My graphics card (according to lspci) is: nVidia Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600M GT] (rev a1) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install nvidia-computeG02-290.10-13.1, nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-desktop-290.10_k3.1.0_1.2-12.1 and x11-video-nvidiaG02-290.10-13.1 from the repository ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.1/. 2. Try to use Celestia. Actual Results: Most celestial objects seem to disappear when getting close enough that they are normally rendered larger than dots. They are actually transparent, as can be seen by enabling place names. They also cast shadows, as can be seen from the attached Saturn screenshot. Mars is special in that it actually shows, but is transparent nonetheless. Expected Results: Celestial objects should not be transparent. I had the same problem with Mandrakelinux 10.0 back in 2004. I still have the screenshots... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #2 from Andreas Nordal
you have to complain to nvidia... Understood.
Problem is, honestly, I haven't cared hard enough. Feel free to do it, anyone. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
