[Bug 777388] New: Please compile Xorg with debug symbols
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=777388 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=777388#c0 Summary: Please compile Xorg with debug symbols Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: RC 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: estellnb@elstel.org QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1 Dear openSUSE development team! Please do again compile Xorg with debug symbols since backtrace will be little helpful without such. I remember the Xorg executable not having been stripped in former times. For all the other Xorg drivers and programs we do already have debug information (Another choice would of course be to provide an external debuginfo package for xorg-x11-server.). nm -s /usr/bin/Xorg nm: /usr/bin/Xorg: no symbols
Perhaps the debuginfo package just didn`t make it on DVD. Nonetheleastwisemore I would really like to have it there; for debugging and error reporting purposes. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If I get a backtrace like at Bug 53873 then I can not install the package with hindsight. Furthermore a bug may be non-reproducable (as the one I am filing this bug for!! - so stop kidding.). Xorg is such a critical core component that you can`t simply crop its debuginfo! You have packed the debuginfo for all the xorg-drivers on DVD just why not for Xorg?! All this is useless without the debuginfo package on DVD. - and don`t tell me it does not fit on DVD. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is now the second time that I have posted a request for secure checksums (Bug 777440). It is just about the debuginfo for a singleton executable! There are 400MB of free space on the RC2 DVD and the xorg-x11-server-debuginfo package just needs 5,3MB. We do not need anything else. Xorg is the only core component that crashes quite often and on the contrary to user applications like KDE programs the debuginfo can not be installed after achieving a crash: Yesterday I have spent the whole forenoon solely in reproducing a bug (54044) that I and the Xorg team already had spent a lot of time on. However all attempts have stayed futilely. The thing about it is that once Xorg crashes the /proc/pid/maps is lost so that you can not reproduce the backtrace. I would highly appreciate the openSUSE team to achieve a solution on this issue having been up to irritate since the beginning of time. It is as simple as to do a 'cat /proc/$$/maps >>/var/log/Xorg.$DISPLAY.log' inside the server or more simple (openSUSE only) to include the xorg-x11-server-debuginfo. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
