[Bug 1094750] New: Updating Leap 15.0, Bootloader Configuration Failed
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1094750 Bug ID: 1094750 Summary: Updating Leap 15.0, Bootloader Configuration Failed Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Factory Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: thomi.schmid@swissonline.ch QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 771459 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=771459&action=edit Picture of error message which appeared during bootloader installation On my PC I did an update from Leap 42.3 (patches up-to-date) to Leap 15.0 using the ISO from an USB stick. When it came to the boot loader configuration, an error message apperaed: "internal error", "bootloader_base.rb:72:in'merge'", "Start ruby debugger ? yes/no". I did *not* start the debugger, and let the system reboot. At GRUB, booting failed because it could not find "linuxefi" and "initrdefi". I removed the "efi" by editing the GRUP commands, the system started up. I then went into YaST, "Bootloader", clicked through the tabs *without* changing anything, saved it. Checking in /boot/grub2/grub.cfg, the "linuxefi" and "initrdefi" were gone. My PC has an ASUS board, with UEFI BIOS: B150M-C, BIOS rev 2003, with CSM enabled. I have attached the requested y2log, and a foto of the error message on screen. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

you boot that USB stick via legacy boot and not EFI, which confuse bootloader no, exactly the opposite: I booted the USB stick through the BIOS override, where only UEFI: USB... was available. It then boots into the openSuSE UEFI GRUB menu (see attached screenshot), from where the "update" installation began.

If there is a line there that mentions "GRUB_USE_LINUXEFI" Yes there is: # cat /etc/default/grub | grep GRUB_USE GRUB_USE_LINUXEFI="true"
then make sure that line is commented out. OK, I'll do.
