[Bug 1095657] New: encrypted home partition: cant change/add crypt passphrase
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1095657 Bug ID: 1095657 Summary: encrypted home partition: cant change/add crypt passphrase Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: Other OS: All Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Upgrade Problems Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: t.rother@netzwissen.de QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: Customer Blocker: --- The option to have an encrypted LUKS image mapped as /home/[username] seems to have been removed between 42.3 and 15.0 from YAST. If you use an encrypted /home created by yast partitions instead, it is not possible to change/replace the initially created LUKS passphrase through cryptsetup LuksAddKey [devicename] Any hints? I could not find any documentation on these changes ... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Personally, I would suggest using "ecryptfs" for an encrypted home directory or for an encrypted private directory. I've been using an encrypted private directory ($HOME/Private) for years, and it works well.
cryptsetup LuksAddKey [devicename]
That needs to be: cryptsetup luksAddKey [devicename] (lower case 'l' for "luks"). I used that around 3 weeks ago with a pre-release install of Leap 15.0, and it worked as expected. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
