Curious. It's its own directory (see below). Not sure what happened here.
Not sure either. Which distro did you initially installed ? was it an old one shipping /var/run as a directory perhaps ? The conversion of /var/run as a symlink to /run might be handled by the installer which could never happen in your case if you only use 'zypper dup' for upgrading your system. YaST team any idea what is supposed to do the conversion ?
I'm fairly sure that we have not manually fiddled with this. Possibly something went wrong during one of the previous runs of 'zypper dup'?
Should I just remove /var/run and link it to /run ?
