[Bug 470895] New: Novell Client for Linux beta for openSUSE11.1 has issues compiling kernel modules at boot
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=470895 Summary: Novell Client for Linux beta for openSUSE11.1 has issues compiling kernel modules at boot Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: roger@opq.se QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-2.5 Firefox/3.0.5 The Novell Client for Linux beta for openSUSE11.1 has issues compiling kernel modules at boot. The the system boots, it seems that a kernel module needs to be recompiled. I get the following errors: CC [M] /opt/novell/ncl/src/novfs/daemon.o /opt/novell/ncl/src/novfs/daemon.c:39:27: error: asm/semaphore.h: No such file or directory /opt/novell/ncl/src/novfs/daemon.c: In function 'Daemon_Dumpque': /opt/novell/ncl/src/novfs/daemon.c:2393: error: request for member 'counter' in something not a structure or union make[3]: *** [/opt/novell/ncl/src/novfs/daemon.o] Error 1 make[2]: *** [_module_/opt/novell/ncl/src/novfs] Error 2 make[1]: *** [sub-make] Error 2 make: *** [all] Error 2 make: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.27.7-9-obj/i386/debug' Error: Build Failed. I think this must come from my installation of the beta Novell Client for Linux for openSUSE11.1 (novell-client-2.0.0-28), or one of the RPMs it brings with it. I am using kernel-pae (2.6.27.7-9.1), and the kernel sources are installed. I have not tried any other kernel modules, so maybe it is not really NCL that is the problem. But that is where the issue shows up for me. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install NCL beta for openSUSE 11.1 2. Reboot 3. The messages will show up during boot. Actual Results: Kernel module does not get rebuilt for current kernel. Expected Results: Kernel module should get rebuilt. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

YES... something I have been fighting for a LOT in the past. A proper repository that also follows the development. Had plenty of contact with Joe but besides nice talks no real outcome (well: there is a repository, but it's static and tageted at SLE only and does not contains KMPs). I can only repeat my offer again to Novell and the NCL team: if you need packaging resources: there IS a community available to help you, and you're running an internal OBS in provo. Make use of it! As for this ticket: I'm afraid it will end up like any other NCL requests for openSUSE in the past (I follow them since about openSUSE 10.2 or so) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=470895 User roger@opq.se added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=470895#c3 --- Comment #3 from Roger Oberholtzer <roger@opq.se> 2009-02-19 00:51:49 MST --- So is there still nothing that runs in openSUSE11.1? Yet I can get a client for Windows with no trouble. There is a logic problem here. As I have commented elsewhere before, I can only interpret this to mean that Novell would rank the order of support for NC as: Supported: Windows SLED Not supported: openSUSE Why these non-functioning releases for openSUSE? I could last run this on 10.0, and that was a struggle and, I think, a fluke. No other openSUSE release has worked for me, Why doesn't Novell just admit that they officially do not support NCL on openSUSE and get it over with? The current state of limbo is frustrating. One cannot tell if one is just wasting time on something Novell have no intention of supporting. We all need an official position statement from Novell. I may be forced to run a Windows PC to get access to some things our company sets up via our corporate-wide Novell login. It is used instead of the Windows login. Yet I will need Windows to access it. How odd. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
