Any time I have to start it in the shell with "etc/init.d/cifs start". After that everything runs fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Activate cifs in Yast/Runlevel 2. Start the computer -> no mount of the shares 3. "etc/init.d/cifs start" in the shell -> "Mount CIFS File Systems from /etc/samba/cifstab //.../LinuxBackup on /.../LinuxBackup type cifs done" 4. What is the cifs-utils version? If you are running not the most recent version, could you try updating cifs-utils package and see? 2. Could you paste the cifstab entry? 3. How are you Network setting managed? Network Manager or ifup method? Because while cifs init script is invoked during boot, it checks whether the file /etc/samba/cifstab is present. If it not available at that time (but available at a later time) it cannot mount the share. When the machine is booting, what is the message (error or other) you are seeing when cifs is started. If necessary close the bug. I guess the reason of the bug is, that I used network manager instead of ifup. On the other hand in my mind it should berunning too with the network manager. /etc was a local partition.
