Maybe you try to add in /etc/xinetd.d/vnc
server_args = .... -securitytypes=none and do a "rcxinetd reload" or a reboot afterwards, for me vnc works after that.
Regards
Thanks for the reminder. I also had to use yast security and users firewall allowed services to manually add 'VNC' from the proposed list to Service to Allow After that, I can get a black vnc screen. That's not my definition of 'works'. If that matters I had chosen the 'Minimal X Window' installation -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When I comment out the ::1 localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback line in /etc/hosts, I finally get (after some time, though) a login screen, and vnc works great -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So one problem is that our XDM use case does not work without -securitytypes=none. But it is not a new option, I've found it mentioned in 2004 already: http://www.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2004-June/045866.html How long could this have been broken? Did the default security types change? Or is there another factor that we are overlooking?
Stefan, do you know if security types default value changed recently?
Yeah. We changed from xf4vnc to tigervnc with openSUSE 12.3. At some time (sorry, can't remember which distribution) we already had shipped tigervnc, but switched back to xf4vnc. Yes, for tigervnc you apparently need "-securitytypes=none" Xvnc option. :-( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I already stated that we switched to a different VNC implementation with openSUSE 12.3. I'm not an expert at all WRT Ipv6. Sorry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I compared XDMCP responses of Xserver and Xvnc and the difference is that Xserver never sends IPv6 link-local scope addresses. It only sends IPv4 and IPv6 global scope. So this looks like it is already solved in Xserver and it just has to be ported to Xvnc.
Found the difference; There is a patch that wasn't upstreamed in our xorg-x11-server package: N_xorg-server-xdmcp.patch Comment in it describes the same issue: /* Ignore IPv6 link local addresses (fe80::/10), because * they need a scope identifier, which we have no way * of telling to the other end. So this patch should be added to xorg-x11-Xvnc as well and probably should be sent upstream. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I thought no patch had been released for 12.3?
the patch is in obs and package has been rebuilt for 12.3 after including that patch (it's listed in the spec). So i thought patched package was finally rebuilt for 12.3. Perhaps i am wrong here. I will retry with factory package, then. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Definitely seems to be fixed in 13.1 Final.
This is indeed fixed in 13.1. But for the reference to get back on the previous points asked by Michal: - xinetd is listening on port 5901 (vnc is active and configured correctly) - the black screen is indeed the result - the port i havent checked, nor the actual error, because updating to 13.1 did fix this problem. - a different displaymanager did not matter. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
