[Bug 355535] New: Check responsiveness for login management configuration
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=355535 Summary: Check responsiveness for login management configuration Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: Markus.Elfring@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I started with a GNOME 2.20 session yesterday. I switched to my test user "susi" in a new KDE 3.5.7 session where I selected the configuration page in the KDE control centre for the login manager. http://www.easylinux.de/Artikel/ausgabe/2004/08/056-kde-tipps/kde11.png I pressed the button for the system management mode. I got the notice "Ladevorgang ..." (Loading ...) after I entered the root password. I would like to point out that this operation takes too long to be really useable. (I'd like to know how long it will take to complete.) I switched between my desktops a couple of times while this data retrieval was running. The display was fine during ten minutes. But I was surprised when I looked back after approximately an hour. I saw a few pixels besides the white mouse pointer alone in the dark. I have just repeated this use case. Now I get a completely black screen after I've pressed "Strg+Alt+F8". (I've noticed the missing refresh after twenty minutes already.) There is no blinking text cursor like on my unused console "F9" and "F11". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Dunno if there can be muched improved, the KDE libraries/runtime system have to be newly loaded for a different user (root). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I get a locked session from the screensaver as expected. (I guess that my recent X server and Nvidia update has got an effect.) I still do not get a reaction from the configuration display after several hours. Is my report related to the open issue "System administration in KDE broken."
