http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1126610 Bug ID: 1126610 Summary: Test text keyboard does not work on HP Pavilion All in One 24-r1xx install can not continue Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: ndordea@gmail.com QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Hello, I am using openSUSE for more than 20 years from V3/4 to Leap 43.2 and now Leap 15.0 . Recently I got some I/O errors on /var that forced me to avoid doing any [re]boots . So, I just bought an HP Pavilion All in One 24-r1xx and I tried to install leap 15.0 on the new machine. I used a bootable CD of openSuSE-Leap-15.0-NET-x86-64.iso downloade from opensuse page. Every thing went fine till the License language keyboards ..... I selected English US [ language/keyboard ) then I tried the "Test Text keyboard" Nothing was received from the key board .... The start-field indicator ( | ) was blinking and anything from console was visible. I tried to go further : 1). at storage/partitonong I could not provade the mount-point 2). at user definition nothing was retrieved [ name, password, etc ] Please note that in Windows it works fine : touch keyboard as well as legacy keyboard . Is it any way to fix this issue ? kernel parm ? Please tell me if it is possible to get opensuse installe on this machine . If not I will return the machine and try another variant . Your help is greatly appreciated . Best Regards, Nick Dordea -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

It may be the case that windows code is aware of this wheres the linux install is not . Thanks . Best, Nick Dordea -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried with diferent approaches : 1) . I disabled the original mouse [ no batteries ] . Instead use another mouse with different transiver. I believed that if the keyboard is the only device connected to the transciever the linux-install would discover it . Unfortunately it did not work . The same issue [ test keyboard fails/ for linux install ] 2) I tried to use another keyboard [ wifi from antother HP All-in-ones PC ] The linux install fails . 3) I used new batteries . The keyboard/mouase work in Windows via hardware as well as touch screen . Unfortunately I do not have any wired keyboard . So I tried to get additional information from seller's tech support . 4) The Linux specialist told me that HP [ and other PC manufacturers ] use a new type of connectivity particularly for mouse/keyboard and that might be the issue Also he told me that using wired keyboard might not be the solution and that the sure thing woulkd be to switch to laptop because the keyboard does not need any "special" connevtivity . 5) Based on that discussion I decided to return back the PC . I am sorry for not being able to test other configurations . My background is in MF techsupport and I know that the install is the first impression od any software . With that in mind as a linux users for more than 20 years, I believe that this intall isue should be fixed . Rather to have new opensuse users/enthusiasts it will detter the old linux user to continue using it . I hope that the laptop solution will work and , honestly, I hate to go back into windows "world" . Thanks for your interest and I wish you the best in solving this issue. http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1126610 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1126610#c5 --- Comment #5 from Nick Dordea <ndordea@gmail.com> --- Hi Nicolas, The HP All-in-one Pavilion PC comes with wireless mouse, wireless keyboard . Both of them connect to the PC via the same transciever [ i.e. one usb slot ] . That was conveyed via my Comment #1 . David was alluding to another test I may try ... "Could you try to install the openSUSE using a different/wired keyboard? Just to discard a driver problem during the installation. If so and you achieve to install it, could you then try to use your keyboard/mouse in the installed system? Do it work?" My comment regarding a wired keyboard was in reply to David's above request of using a wired keyboard . Unfortunately all keyboards that I have are wireless . It seems that you combined the end of paragraph item 3) with the pathe paragraph item 4) and considered them as a genuine paragraph . In fact the paragraph 3 ) and paragraph 4) are not related ! The paragraph item 4) is the opinion expressed by seller's linux specialist . Based on it I returned the PC . At this point opensuse should decide what to do . To solve this issue or to discard it . In my opinion, opensuse should solve the install software because any install is the first impression on the entire opensuse brand and not to only the install of leap 15.0 . I hope that the new laptop---wich I'll receive in a couple of days--- will not force me to open another ticket regarding the opensuse leap 15.0 install . Thank you for pointing to that issue . The leap 15.0 install does not have the keyboard problem . It seems that the install/kernel can not detect the new HP wireless keybord . I was able to install it but got in other issues [ new ticket ] . Thank you for looking into this wireless keybosrd issue . Good luck .
