[Bug 1013687] New: KMail 5.3.0 - search index not being rebuild
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1013687 Bug ID: 1013687 Summary: KMail 5.3.0 - search index not being rebuild Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Applications Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: axel.braun@gmx.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 704846 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=704846&action=edit building search index After upgrade of Leap 42.1 to 42.2 and from Kmail 4.14.10 to 5.3.0 the search is not working properly. I tried: akonadictl fsck akonadictl vaccum akonadictl restart. Despite the KMail search always complains that no index is build (see attachment). There is no progress on index building, and search results are frankly speaking wrong -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please check in "akonadiconsole" whether the index agent is running. Also,
Filtering for 'index', no agent seems to be active. There is as well no agent to add called similar...which name should I look for?
check a folder (right click -> Properties) and see if the force reindex button in the maintenance tab helps.
There is at least a button, and it turns grey once clicked. Cant confirm currently that it helps -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you have akonadi-search installed?
It's not installed by default, as I just noticed. Apparently the dependency got lost in one of the KDEPIM split-ups... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'd suggest kdepim-addons, as this contains the krunner search plugin and it is required by kmail and korganizer. And I think a Recommends would be enough. According to my first entry, this was probably a migration (41.1 -> 41.2) topic Now, in akonadiconsole it says 'Indexing finished' , when using the search it still shows the indexing dialog, and the progress bar hangs at 0% - same as shown in the attachment https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=704846 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'd suggest kdepim-addons, as this contains the krunner search plugin and it is required by kmail and korganizer.
And I think a Recommends would be enough.
Opinions?
As search becomes more and more important, I feel it should be a 'Requires' dependency -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Scratch that, the krunner plugin is actually in akonadi-search itself (must have mixed up the rpm output in Konsole...) I still think kdepim-addons is the best place, as akonadi-search is not only used by kmail. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, but the quick search at least should work without an index IIANM. We always just recommended baloo-pim in KDE4 too. (makes it possible to uninstall it in case of problems) But ok, I'm fine with both. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is de-installing akonadi-search the option?
It certainly is an option, but that would of course make indexing disfunctional again.
What files in the ~/.local or .kde folder should be cleaned up?
Try to delete ~/.local/share/akonadi/search_db/. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I still think kdepim-addons is the best place, as akonadi-search is not only used by kmail.
Or maybe just akonadi-server itself... FTR, it was required by the kdepim package in the past (i.e. 42.2), which doesn't exist any more. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

~/.local/share/baloo/emailContacts. Note that this likely means that the database (Xapian) got corrupted somehow.
There was no such subfolder to baloo, but I deleted the whole baloo folder as well as the ~/.local/share/akonadi/search_db/. Seems I'm able to send again. Thanks! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
