Running GNOME as DE if that might be of interest. When first trying to run it as normal user I noticed there was no prompt for the root password. Wireshark starts up ok, but there are no interfaces shown or to be selected. When trying to run Wireshark as root (both opening a console using ' su -' or using gnomesu) the user X session hangs. I see the Wireshark application window freezing while attempting to openen and my desktop becomes unresponsive. The mouse pointer still works but no selections can be made. Also the <ALT><CTRL><Fx> combinations don't work.. keyboard looks frozen. There are no specific messages in /var/log/messages. I've pulled the wireshark-1.0.4-2.3.i586.rpm package and installed it. The freeze issue is fixed, so thumbs up! Running Wireshark as users, the popup asking for the root password is still not coming up though? Although I can imagine it's handy to let users read captured files.. Is the popup not supposed to be there? If you run it manually, it doesn't ask for password, only when you run from menu (that means desktop file is read). Sorry for that! I got too focused on testing and updating and kept starting the app from a terminal console. :P Running Wireshark from the menu presents to prompt. Good to be reminded about those settings in the .desktop file though! For me this is fixed, but do you think it will make it into the GM? If not... it might be better to keep this call open?
