[Bug 645186] New: RPM downloading
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=645186 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=645186#c0 Summary: RPM downloading Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Maintenance AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nothereforever@hotmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 save downloading from SUSE servers all the time, please place the cd/dvd/iso image at a higher prioity than the internet servers. also perhaps have a readonly network share for downloaded RPMs so networked computers can share rpm downloads (for private networks) perhaps just specify the main computer's saved RPM directory.... i do have a question, can i preserve the folder structure (folders have names of the repository they came from) in a RPM source folder (that i specify as a directory containing RPMs) and they still work? or will it only work if i place all the RPMs in the root of the folder? is there a way of deleting stored RPMs that are no longer in use (old versions), in both the saved downloaded RPM directory and the networked source? save downloading from SUSE servers all the time, please place the cd/dvd/iso image at a higher prioity than the internet servers.
It is possible to configure software management to do this. Make sure you have the following option uncommented and set to 'volatile' in your /etc/zypp.conf: download.media_preference = volatile It is currently not possible to change this setting from YaST or other software management tool.
also perhaps have a readonly network share for downloaded RPMs so networked computers can share rpm downloads (for private networks) perhaps just specify the main computer's saved RPM directory....
Yes, this would be useful, and more people are requesting such feature (zypp guys: do we have similar reports/fate or was it just forums/irc where i saw it?).
i do have a question, can i preserve the folder structure (folders have names of the repository they came from) in a RPM source folder (that i specify as a directory containing RPMs) and they still work? or will it only work if i place all the RPMs in the root of the folder?
Do you mean when you use a local directory as a repository in YaST/zypper? It will work with rpm files in any subdirectory, the directories are searched recursively.
is there a way of deleting stored RPMs that are no longer in use (old versions), in both the saved downloaded RPM directory and the networked source?
I'm not sure what you mean by "the networked source", but you can remove downloaded rpms for example using 'zypper clean' command on the command line. Type 'zypper help clean' to get more info. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
