Uhm, I'm not sure what does this mean :-) So, which kernel package do you have installed? 2. If you are reporting bug from the "repair" session, you have to fetch the log files during it (and copy them somewhere over network or using usb stick). When you finish/abort repair, system is restarted and the logs are lost. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When you run repair from installation media, logs are not saved on the disk but they stay in memory (and are lost after reboot). So you need to switch to text console (ctrl+alt+f2), create the tarball with the logfiles and copy them somewhere over the network (if it is configured) or to the UCB stick. You don't need to do it now, I'll try to reproduce the problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Kernel.ycp has list of fallbacks when the proposed kernel is not available. The question is how is the kernel selected in the repair module. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=299683#c12 --- Comment #12 from Ladislav Slezak <lslezak@novell.com> 2007-08-30 02:12:18 MST --- The problem might be in Kernel.ycp (I don't know if Mode::normal() is set in the repair mode): if (Mode::normal ()) { while (the_kernel != "" && !Pkg::IsProvided (the_kernel)) { the_kernel = fallbacks[the_kernel]:""; y2milestone ("Not provided, falling back to '%1'", the_kernel); } } Pkg::IsProvided() checks whether the tag is provided by any package, the problem is that 'kernel-smp' is provided by 'kernel-default', so Kernel.ycp returns 'kernl-smp' even if the package 'kernel-smp' is not available.
