[Bug 657621] New: NetworkManager does not respect "addresses only" DHCP setting
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=657621 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=657621#c0 Summary: NetworkManager does not respect "addresses only" DHCP setting Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: contact@holgerarnold.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 SUSE/3.6.12-0.7.1 Firefox/3.6.12 I have set up a WLAN connection in KNetworkManager, where I have selected "Automatic (DHCP) addresses only" on the "IP Address" tab, but NetworkManager does not respect this setting. If, as in my case, the DNS servers of your provider are really bad, this problem can cause really slow DNS lookups. I don't know whether this problem is caused by the KNetworkManager front-end or by NetworkManager itself. The respective config file in "$HOME/.kde4/share/apps/networkmanagement/connections/" contains the line "ignoredhcpdns=true", so the setting is stored correctly. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Create a new wireless connection in KNetworkManager. 2. On the "IP Address" tab, select "Automatic (DHCP) addresses only" and enter adresses of some DNS servers. 3. Activate the connection. Actual Results: The DNS servers provided by DCHP are used with higher priority than the DNS servers entered manually in KNetworkManager (i.e., if I enter two DNS servers manually and DCHP provides two DNS servers, NetworkManager uses the two servers provided by DHCP and the first server entered manually). Expected Results: NetworkManager should completely ignore the DNS servers offered by DHCP.
