https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=731647 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=731647#c0 Summary: Yast2 Qt doesn't pick up system style unless yast2-branding-basedonopensuse is installed Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alvanx@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: No See this thread on the forum: http://forums.opensuse.org/forums/english/get-technical-help-here/applicatio... If the package yast2-branding-basedonopensuse isn't installed, only the control center respects the system style settings. Seems the package should be the default (rather than yast2-branding-openSUSE). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The installation of yast2-branding-basedonopensuse mixes up the symbolic link /usr/share/YaST2/theme/current which points to the current yast style. In this case yast doesn't use its own style sheet which leads to the fact that you see the desktop's default settings. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, it's the other way round. The installation of yast2-branding-basedonopensuse mixes up the symbolic link /usr/share/YaST2/theme/current which points to the current yast style. In this case yast doesn't use its own style sheet which leads to the fact that you see the desktop's default settings.
So you are trying to say this is intentional? It is hard for me to see why the nice Qt theme should be intentionally replaced by a style that is above all inconsistent (even within Yast2, not to mention colors) and, arguably, visually far less appealing than the default Oxygen style. (I'm coming from a KDE perspective right now, I don't know if the same problem applies in Gtk/GNOME.) The design works nice for the installer, but not for the desktop app, IMHO. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thomas put a lot of effort into theming yast on desktop, but a lot of people seem to prefer a plain KDE look. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The theme is personally not my cup of tea, but that is highly subjective, I read in at least one review of 12.1 that the reviewers liked it. There was no offense intended. :-) But what should weigh in more is consistency of the desktop - why put so much effort into theming Gtk and LO and Firefox to match KDE and then have a Yast theme that looks out of place because it uses different colors and a custom style. In my opinion, a custom look is a very good idea, but it should be desktop-wide. I hope 12.2 will see a consistent, thorough-going design concept. Maybe it could be based off of this theme? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This I get even on fresh livecd system. Apart from the ugly black background, when I choose packages cancel/accept buttons fall outside the window, need to rescale it. I don't get idea when yast has its own style and does not respect my qt/gtk settings. I'm working on kDE but for me, YAST GTK is much more functional (live search, quick summary of available updates etc). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
