[Bug 261115] New: knetworkmanager: does not refresh wifi nets list
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=261115 Summary: knetworkmanager: does not refresh wifi nets list Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de I turned on my computer first, then my router. I though KNM will connect to my net automatically but it didn't even get the net name. There were shown only names which were available at the moment KNM was started, and I waited (and waited) but new name didn't appear. Just to check if everything is ok with wifi, I launched Kwifimanager and immediately the new name appeared in KNM. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If your driver fails
Driver? Why it is failing with KNM and not with ifup?
to find your presumably hidden network
My network is not hidden. Ifup works in two cases without any user intervention: computer first, router second router first, computer second I just switched to NM + knetworkmanager, so as a regular user I could expect it is just plug&play, I didn't change any network settings (on router) but unfortunately with KNM only the latter works.
Once connected move the network to the fallback group ("Options" -> "Show Networks..." -> Drag and drop the network to the fallback group).
Thank you, but it is just a workaround, not a fix -- my point is, KNM should refresh the list, after all network name is broadcasted. You cannot expect users will save data about every net they will connect to. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I can attach nm-tool output if it would help. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=261115 ------- Comment #9 from bluedzins@wp.pl 2007-04-30 04:31 MST ------- Helmut,
Does NM recognize the lost access point if you wait a few minutes?
KNM cannot "recognize" it since the router is off.
Please attach the output of nm-tool and iwconfig while KNM thinks it has a connection but router is turned off.
A little of misunderstanding, I am not saying KNM thinks it is connected, I am saying, KNM thinks the network is active (it is down). KNM knows it is disconnected. Just in case I attached the files. My network (turned off) is w0nderland2.
Does the network show up in the context menu?
Yes, it is, once even KNM tried to reconnect, but then another bug kicked in (kwallet integration, reported). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

That configuration file is not correct. The one we're shipping with 10.2 definitely looks different.
On this computer I don't have fresh 10.2 -- it was upgraded, AFAIR 10.1A3 -> 10.1 -> 10.0 -> 10.2.
Maciej, please check whether /var/log/messages contains debug logs from NetworkManager.
