[Bug 730065] New: Synaptiks should be installed by default if Synaptics touchpad is detected
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=730065 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=730065#c0 Summary: Synaptiks should be installed by default if Synaptics touchpad is detected Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: suddha.sourav@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 My laptop is an HP 4430s which comes with a Synaptics touchpad. Unfortunately in OpenSuSE 12.1 RC2, it has no configuration utility by default - leaving me to use it as a PS/2 mouse. It's awkward because I cannot tap to click, and because of some other functionality too. I request that if Synaptics touchpad is detected, OpenSuSE should install the Synaptiks configuration tool automatically. That's how it worked in SuSE 11.4, at least. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install OpenSUSE 12.1 RC2 2. Go to Configure Desktop (Personal Settings) > Input devices. 3. Observe that no "touchpad" functionality is listed in the left column, even though a Synaptics device exists. Actual Results: No touchpad configuration tool Expected Results: There should be Synaptiks tool -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The solution seems to be quite simple. Just search in Yast for "touchpad" and install the approriate package for KDE or GNOME. Select "synaptiks" for KDE or "gsynaptics" for GNOME. After this there is a new menu item in the KDE "configuration Desktop / Personal Settings".
yes, but it took some time to find this package if you mostly dont use YaST. Installation by default would be a benefit Hardware is the same for me, configured as /dev/input/mice (ThinkPad T520) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I can tell you once I set-up the T520 with 12.2 - this will be in around 3 weeks time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
