[Bug 566062] New: kde external device mounting is complicated
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=566062 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=566062#c0 Summary: kde external device mounting is complicated Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: cyberbeat@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.6 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.0.266.0 Safari/532.6 I would like see following changes: - make kde handle esata devices like usb devices (not request root privileges). often my esata hotplug is not recognized by kde at all. - give devices/partitions other names than "disk", "disk-1", "disk-2". ideally they have unique identifier like their logical volume-name, so that applications/bookmarks can rely on that, and are independant of the order in which the devices are connected - option to automount all available devices as a user, when they are connected. even when devices are already plugged at boot time. (like ms windows does) - be able to mount devices with device notifier without opening device in file-browser. - be able to modify device-actions in kde-advanced systemsettings to change mount-options like encoding and rights.. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

are you shure, that even the "request root privileges for esata" problem is kde-related? May the problem not be layers deeper? I have a kde-bugtracker account, but I thought a distribution perhaps also cares for usability of its desktop (by helping upstream / patches).
Sorry, I overlooked this point. I only help with triaging bugs for KDE on openSUSE as the amount of bug reports for KDE on openSUSE is just to large. But I hope you agree, that the other points are KDE issues and I have not overlooked something else. It is easily possible at the moment that also a important bugreport is missed by the actual developers due to the large number of reports. So at the moment it is probably more useful to report such enhancement requests upstream or at least also upstream. I hope you understand my motivation. And for the "request root privileges for esata" it would probably be the best to fill a new bug here, as it might easily get missed in this report as I have proved already. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
