From what I see here, it sounds like you have:
- samba 3.2 on opensuse 11 server and either: - cifs filesystem on opensuse 10.3 client or: - smb-enabled application on opensuse 10.3 client But what are you using to play the mkv file? And how do you go about it? Also, it sounds like you have had this working in the past with some other setup...is this true? If so, please let us know. Without knowing more details, it sounds to me like the client application is making this decision. Client is 10.3, server is 11 RC1. Using the SMB protocol and permissions set to x etc double clicking the mkv file in a konqueror window under KDE via smb://IPaddress/share opens up smplayer which you can then see a konqueror copy is started before playing a file. It's impossible if it's a large file like a high def video that's over 4GB. By comparison in an NFS share executed the same manner the file plays over the network without downloading it first. I thought this worked before, I have logged a similar call in the past about opening documents but thought that it was all resolved now. Hope that covers it! MPlayer has its own implementation of libsmbclient to watch videos on a smb share. NFS is is a mounted filesystem and not a virtual filesystem. Use the smb support of mplayer or mount the smb share with cifs.
