[Bug 685058] New: System does not boot correctly after reboot
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685058 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=685058#c0 Summary: System does not boot correctly after reboot Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: eldeh@web.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0 I had an openSuSE 11.2 and updated it to 11.3 and then to 11.4. If I use the command "halt" switch of my PC and start switch it on again, everything works. But if I use the command "reboot", then the system skips the most of runlevel 5 booting phase during the next boot, leaving a system with only text login, without network, locale, etc. It seems, that I can manually start all rc-scripts, but this should have been done automatically by init. If I use systemd instead of sysvinit, then this problem disappears. The display states that runlevel 5 has been reached but no script has been run, of neither runlevel. The "Running /etc/init.d/before.local" and "Running /etc/init.d/after.local" messages are just one line apart. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm also an 'upgrader' from 11.3, but the problem only occured two days ago, and I upgraded much earlier. Until two days ago, there was no problem. Maybe on your systems the start/stop links for runlevel 5 are missed or the master boot script /etc/init.d/rc is defect. You may try insserv --recursive --default --force xdm to reenable e.g xdm. On the other hand this is the first report of such a behaviour. Some more informations would help a lot, e.g. output of insserv and the command `chkconfig -l' for an example. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In addition to that having the package "systemd-sysvinit" installed can help since is a drop-in replacement for sysvinit. For me openSUSE 12.1 boots fine even using sysvinit as a bootloader option. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
