[Bug 910987] New: In Suse13.2 dmraid can't boot after error free installation
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=910987 Bug ID: 910987 Summary: In Suse13.2 dmraid can't boot after error free installation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader Assignee: jsrain@suse.com Reporter: gert.ahrens@ahrenszedau.de QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- The error message on grub2 safeboot is "sdb unknown partition table. After much tryings a security command line appears. Typing "dmraid -ay" let the raid build up. After that I can mount the /dev/mapper/pdc_hicdhaddip1 and so on. I believe its an problem with udev or systemd. In every case, the driver is in the initrd! Only activating of dmraid isn't in function. Below a part of my boot log from a functional Suse 12.2. http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=910987 --- Comment #6 from Gert Ahrens <gert.ahrens@ahrenszedau.de> --- Hi folks, after some investigation I find out how actually to unpack initrd files and get the content. I search the internet and find this site. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=996245 So in my opinion dmraid must be included in the /etc/dracut.conf file or the files in/etc/dracut.conf.d/. #snip Peter Trenholme 2013-08-12 16:48:58 EDT Well, that didn't work: dm and dmraid were there, but mdraid was not included. I tried adding it: $ grep -v '#' /etc/dracut.conf | grep -v '^[[:space:]]*$' add_dracutmodules+="dm dmraid" add_drivers+="mdraid" hostonly="yes" mdadmconf="yes" lvmconf="no" #end snip But I can't find any line with this content in the configuration files. The content of the SuSE files are in dracut_conf_file_1 and dracut_conf_file_2 Could that be the reason for the error? http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=910987 Keith Hopkins <lnxgnome@gmail.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |lnxgnome@gmail.com --- Comment #7 from Keith Hopkins <lnxgnome@gmail.com> --- I'm adding this comment to provide more perspective this bug report, which is similar to 906142. 13.2 cannot handle the existence of a pdc/promise style fakeraid raid0 array. It detects partition beyond end-of-disk and falls into a loop, eventually dumping out to a dracut prompt. The system has three disks. Two in a fakeraid raid0 array, and a single disk. The system started as a 12.3 install on a fakeraid raid0 array, which worked fine. I ran an upgrade, booting from the 13.2 DVD. The installer detected the fakeraid and all of it contents perfectly, and did the upgrade in place. After rebooting, the system fails as described above. I then made the single disk the boot disk in BIOS, and did a new install of 13.2 onto an unused partition on the single disk. That went fine (and the installer still recognized the fakeraid array correctly). Upon booting from the new single disk install, the system fails as described above. I've now re-installed 12.3 on the single disk, and am up and running enough to recover the data from the fakeraid array. ---- Thanks to Gert for doing good research. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
