[Bug 734747] New: KDE Panel only shows up after mouse grab when using -usbdevice tablet in qemu
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734747 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734747#c0 Summary: KDE Panel only shows up after mouse grab when using -usbdevice tablet in qemu Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: mat@mshopf.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0 I'm using a minimal KDE LIVE system built with kiwi here. When testing this image in qemu-kvm, the panel just doesn't show up when booting. Only after pressing Ctrl-Alt (or right Ctrl if qemu is started with -ctrl-grab) the panel suddenly shows up. This happens *most* of the time, but not always. This does not happen if I don't specify -usbdevice tablet in qemu, so this is specific to this absolute coordinate device (don't know the gory details what happens comparing grabbed and ungrabbed state). Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot KDE live image with "qemu-kvm -usb -usbdevice tablet" Actual Results: Panel isn't showing up. Expected Results: Panel shows up. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Given that vmmouse seems to work fine with 12.1 (which didn't completely before), this is probably a minor issue, but it could point to something fundamentally wrong. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Any idea what might be going on to prevent Plasma showing a panel until the mouse has been grabbed/ungrabbed? Matthias, is plasma-desktop actually running before the grab? Is the rest of the kde session apparently there? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The desktop is there, but it doesn't react on the mouse (no mouseovers, etc.). It also seems that clicking works for unfreezing the desktop as well. It might also be related to bug 734749 - since I have working sound (even without any soundcard available), I haven't seen this effect anymore... Does this make sense? Might the startup sound delay the display of the panel? In that case, please close as duplicate if seems fit. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734747 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734747#c4 --- Comment #4 from Matthias Hopf <mat@mshopf.de> 2011-12-07 01:07:56 UTC --- Sorry, ignore my last findings - I forgot -usbdevice tablet when testing... The mouse actually *does* create mouseover reactions. Clicking icons actually starts the programs. The keyboard does work as well. Only the panel isn't showing up, and will only surface upon Ctrl-Alt in qemu-kvm. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734747 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734747#c5 --- Comment #5 from Lubos Lunak <llunak@suse.com> 2011-12-07 13:05:45 UTC --- I have no idea what possibly might cause plasma-desktop not show the panel until Ctrl+Alt is pressed (unless there is code somewhere in it that does this "on purpose"). Qemu's grabs should not affect this at all, it's the virtual machine's state and it should not be propagated to the OS inside. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734747 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734747#c6 --- Comment #6 from Matthias Hopf <mat@mshopf.de> 2011-12-07 19:01:36 UTC --- Note that the key pressed depends on the key configured for mouse grabbing. Thus this cannot be about hardcoded keys. The state of the grab *is* propagated to the machine by the means of the evdev driver, because it now gets relative coordinates... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
