[Bug 350965] New: screensaver freezes laptop
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=350965 Summary: screensaver freezes laptop Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: pallotta@inwind.it QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: pallotta@inwind.it Found By: --- I have my laptop (ACER Aspire 5920) with opensuse 10.3 installed and kde as window manager. I have setup screensaver (through Kdesktop) as random with password to enter in 30 secs. Sometimes when screensaver starts then the images in the monitors lock and laptop freezes. The only solution is to press the power button to reboot the pc (nor ctrl ^alt^canc key combination runs). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I assume that the random screensaver selects a 3d (opengl) based screensaver by random, and that that one crashes your machine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As I said it is only necessary to disable the option that requires passwd to unlock screensaver, not the entire screensaver function to avoid crashes. As you said I use random screensaver so I cannot exclude that 3d based screensaver (opengl) is the responsable of this issue. Moreover I have kpowersave configured to enter monitor stand-by after 10 minutes and suspend after 20 minutes and poweroff after 30 minutes so I would do some tests to exclude these variables: 1) kpowersave configs 2) 3d based screensaver Let's stay in stand-by until these tests and now, for who that are in my situation, I only suggest to exclude the function that requires passwd to unlock screensaver. I will reduce severity to normal. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
