[Bug 223839] New: IPMI ([kipmi0] kernel process) uses too much CPU time
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=223839 Summary: IPMI ([kipmi0] kernel process) uses too much CPU time Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QAContact: qa@suse.de On a four-CPU Opteron system (SunFire X4100) running SLES10 in 64 bit mode, the IPMI module ("kipmi0") is the process that uses most CPU, even though there are about 30 online users. The problem is visible in top once IPMI is activated. Looking in Google, I found http://www.mail-archive.com/openipmi-developer@lists.sourceforge.net/msg0027... of June 26th 2006, patching linux-2.6.17/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si_intf.c like this: - udelay(1); + schedule(); As the kernel uses in SLES10 is older, I suppose the patch was not integrated yet. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=223839 ------- Comment #5 from Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de 2006-12-15 00:46 MST ------- As said in the description (comment 0), it was found for SLES10 64bit, but it's basically a kernel issue. I'm not allowed to file bugs for SLES directly anymore. I'm still hoping that bugs in the base system find attention this way as well. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I hope I can look on this issue, but I can not schedule time these days. If there is no other people looks on it, I can try to have a look next month. (In reply to comment #5)
