[Bug 544871] New: Network Settings, ifup method: give easy method to configure mobile (or modem in general) internet
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=544871 Summary: Network Settings, ifup method: give easy method to configure mobile (or modem in general) internet Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: All OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: david.maillists@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-1.3 Firefox/3.5.3 In Yast, Network Settings, you are given the option of choosing the traditional ifup method if NetworkManager gives problems. As far as I now, you can configure a cable or a wifi connection with this method. I miss the feature of being able to easily configure a mobile internet connection, which is more and more used. Also, and more general, a modem connection, which is not so different from the mobile internet connection, is it?. Gnome control centre (in the "vanilla" installation) has already that feature if I remember correctly. Am I wrong? What I have in mind is an easy-to-use mobile internet module in Yast, user friendly as for example NetworkManager (to use in Yast in case NetworkManager gives problems). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Network Manager (and I think gnome-ppp as well) try to spare to the user as much configuration as possible, so they are suitable for non-experts, whereas yast (and kppp) are not. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
