However RealPlayer+Helix 11 were released on April 14 2008. https://helixcommunity.org/projects/player/news/907 This release is supposed to play Windows Media formats, legally (due to anti-trust settlement between MS and RealNetworks if I'm not mistaken). I only just realized that this release was out myself, and I haven't bothered to test it, since I live in Europe and am happy with ffmpeg. It might be worth looking into though.
