[Bug 1120263] New: zypper ps should mention "reboot needed
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1120263 Bug ID: 1120263 Summary: zypper ps should mention "reboot needed Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp Assignee: zypp-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: suse-beta@cboltz.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Please enhance zypper ps so that it mentions if a reboot is needed. I know that this is not as easy to detect as open files ;-) - but there might be a good-enough simple way to implement this: a) when installing a patch with the "reboot needed" flag, zypper should create a file /run, basically touch /run/reboot_needed (needless to say that /run is a ramdisk, so that file will be gone after a reboot) b) zypper ps should then check if that file exists, and print "reboot needed" Bonus points if the kernel %post also creates the /run/reboot_needed file ;-) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

$ zypper needs-rebooting No core libraries or services have been updated. Reboot is probably not necessary.
Bur we can add similar hints to the summary and ps. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #2 from Christian Boltz
It's basically implemented for FATE#326451 (https://fate.suse.com/326451). Not based on any patch flags, but, as it IMO should be, based on packages. Several packages cause /var/run/reboot_needed to be touched if they are updated (incl. kernel). Since zypper-1.14.15:
Agreed, handling it based on packages is even better :-)

Nice, but I have to admit that I never heard about "zypper needs-rebooting". OTOH, I use "zypper ps" since years - and even a zypper up/dup ends with a pointer to check it.
Bur we can add similar hints to the summary and ps.
Yes, please do that - it will be much more visible and useful than "hiding" it behind needs-reboot ;-) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
