[Bug 555298] New: Gnome Banshee media player cannot play mp3 files
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555298 Summary: Gnome Banshee media player cannot play mp3 files Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Bugzilla AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sjn45@yahoo.com QAContact: novbugzilla-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 SUSE/3.5.4-1.1.2 Firefox/3.5.4 When I try to play my mp3 music files, Banshee places an "X" in front of the selected file (indicating, I guess, that it cannot play the file). Some searching reveals that it does not have the proper codec for mp3. When I try to search/load the mp3 codec, a message appears stating that it cannot apply the codec file because "there are no instructions for this version of Linux" Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open Banshee 2.select music file 3.select play or double click on music file 4.nothing happens except a note states "waiting for playback to begin" Expected Results: Open application Select music file it plays I am newbee so I do not know much about where to go, what to look for, or how to write command line stuff to investigate the problem. I know that Gnome is not a Novell product, but I understand that Novell has "modified" these applications to run on openSUSE, so I assume you know how to fix/where to look to correct this problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Regarding the BTW: I thought I did report this as openSUSE 11.2. That is what the Product field reads above.
Because I changed it yesterday ;-)
What did I do wrong?
You took the wrong entry at the first step of bug reporting ("openSUSE.org" vs. "openSUSE 11.2"). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
