This was found to be due to the presence of a file called displaymanager.orig in /etc/sysconfig/, as well as the file displaymanager. The behaviour continued when I renamed the displaymanager.orig file to bakdisplaymanager.orig, it only stopped when I moved the file out of the etc/sysconfig directory altogether Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.cp /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager.orig 2.Open Yast>system>etc/sysconfig editor>desktop>display manager 3.
