Try the following: % amixer set Digital 0dB % amixer set Capture cap % amixer set Capture 22dB The first "Digital" is "Digital Capture Volume", and you shouldn't change this from 50% (= 0dB in this case) unless you have a digital mic without a hardware volume control. The latter two are to unmute and adjust the capture volume.
