What is the rationale behind having it in the first place?

At some point -Os was the default I think. While investigating a memory corruption it slightly helped to get better stack traces by using -On. The corruption is (likely) still there. I switched to claws, so I'm all set. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
