There are some bits in the start-up guide. I'd rather vote to add an online help to SaX itself. Maybe, the documentation department can help with this project later this year or so. But this is to be decided by Tom. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

This is a totally unacceptable solution. As for how help should look, follow the guidelines in the program text style guide. This should be fixed now, starting with getting the technical stuff working. Beyond that, you should NEVER have a help button when there is no help! This is totally unacceptable. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215213 ms@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- AssignedTo|ms@novell.com |siegfried.olschner@novell.com ------- Comment #5 from ms@novell.com 2007-01-05 07:45 MST ------- if you are using sax there is always an X-Server available because sax will configure one before the GUI is displayed. There are only two situations: - no X, which means console mode... starting sax will run an X-Server automatically - X is running... starting sax results in the GUI to be displayed on this server So the question whether there is an X-Server or not should not be discussed here. Back to the original problem. The help button only exists because Sigi or some other people wants to provide a solution for a global and common help system for SuSE Linux which can be used by any application. This has been told to me but maybe this has changed and I didn't notice it ? Something like this doesn't exist as far as I know and I don't know if it is technically possible to link an application (Qt based) to the SuSE help Center. Anyway people offered me their help with the sax help but it seems there were more important tasks which prevents that until now and that's the reason why there is no help for sax. To tell the truth this situation lasts for more than a year now and I never saw a customer crying for a sax help so I think it is not needed at all. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

And you are right, Marcus, there might be no need for a help text [ it seems to be a usable application ;) ], but the SaX is an essential part of the system and I think its documentation is mandatory. I suggest to add a basic description of the tool within the application - available via the "Help" button and a pop up with help text. This text can provide hints (or links) that will lead to the full description in the online manual. Tom, can you take care of this? Who can write the texts? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

(eg minor GUI changes that don't have impact on the manual text but should be reflected in the program help text) o the help text format is specific for the program (YaST etc.) and does (usually) not fit into the documentation write/build environment. All this matter is best known by the developer himself and consequently, the developers write the help texts. The doc team provides proofing/streamlining of help and program texts for YaST by Rebecca but we need at least a draft text as basis for this work. If we get this for SaX we can do it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I'm sick of asking and asking and asking who is feeling responsible or who is willing to offer its help to create the help texts. I have heard a lots of stories and ideas but nobody ever even started to present something usable and at the end of all chit chat the result is that I should fix it, ok I will fix it obviously there is no help needed fixed -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
