Hard lockups should be accompanied by an oops. If you observe the lockup and there is no oops, do alt+sysrq+w to show blocked tasks. It could be a deadlock instead of a crash. Also, please try to reproduce with the latest update kernel. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've update it to the latest (at the moment) pae kernel through update repository. Setting up /etc/sysconfig/sysctl ENABLE_SYSRQ="yes", /etc/sysconfig/boot KLOGCONSOLE_PARAMS="-r0 -l8". In grub setting up next options at boot: 3 video= Switching between console now doesn't hang up the OS. To reproduce bug now, I need to login under user account and run several times /sbin/mkinitrd. The OS hangs up and doesn't respond to any keys pressed, even on alt+sysrq+w. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The dmesg doesn't provide any information about the hang. You'll have to actually run "klogconsole -r0 -l8" on the console since the boot scripts (stupidly, perhaps) assign tty10 as the console output regardless of the KLOGCONSOLE_PARAMS if you're not booting with a serial console. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I've run "klogconsole -r0 -l8" then I've checked that alt+sysrq+w works at the current console. But when I've start /sbin/mkinitrd several times, I've caught the hang and alt+sysrq+w does not work.
