Anyway, i'll try the installation as soon as i have CD isos. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=263207 ------- Comment #4 from jkupec@novell.com 2007-04-12 05:10 MST ------- So, the first try succeeded. Got one CD and one DVD drive. Proceeded with default package selection with GNOME, installation indicated it will need three CDs. Put CD1 and CD2 into drives. After installing stuff from them, installer asks for CD3. Put CD3 in instead of CD1, hit OK. Fist stage completes fine. So may this issue is VMware specific? Going to try with more CDs yet. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=263207 ------- Comment #6 from jkupec@novell.com 2007-04-12 08:23 MST ------- I was able to reproduce it, but it really seems to be occuring at random, that's weird. I have been dropped back to linuxrc everytime and chose update instead of new installation and it appears the number of packages still needed to install keeps getting lower but the install doesn't complete. The last error I got was when the default install tried installing LILO. I changed this to GRUB and the install rebooted as it should and brought me to a yast not a yast 2 installer. The dvd bittorrent is painfully slow, less than one KB from only 13 sources available. I have never reported a bug before or commented at all on a beta so if my remarks about the bittorrent are out of the proper forum, please direct me to the appropriate one. Also if there is a log file I can provide that may be of help please let me know how to get you what is needed. I am familiar with viewing logs through yast2 but not so skilled at the command prompt with a system that didn't install correctly. My internet test failed so I aborted and finished install which brought me to a runlevel 3 login. I'm going to try to update install again and see if I can get to a newbie desktop. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=263207 ------- Comment #8 from aj@novell.com 2007-04-13 00:40 MST ------- Dan, mention the bittorrent issue on the mailing lists. In general only one issue should be in one report so that we can handle them separately. How many CDROMs did you configure in VMware? It worked fine for me if I only configured one... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=263207 ------- Comment #9 from dledwith2@hotmail.com 2007-04-13 23:04 MST ------- I only configured one cdrom in vmware workstation 5.5.3 build-34685 with 2 processors and 1gig of ram. I am installing from isos and not physical media if that makes any difference. The host is xp mce with all current updates. Suse did not recognize the virtual hard drive at all in the default scsi config so the only thing i changed was to make it an ide drive instead. I can not get to a desktop even though after 3 additional upgrade installs it does reboot but brings me to the internet test in text mode. After that it drops me to run level 3 and a login which I am not that familiar with. I never even get a chance to enter a root password or add users so I'm not sure what to even login with. The only other piece of info that I can give you is that the default bridged connection doesn't seem to work any more for me in any of my virtual machines. I had to change them all to use the NAT option and use internet connection sharing on my real network adapter. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not but I figured I would let you know just in case. I have gone back in to repair the system from the installation program on the first disk (iso) but it doesn't work. It also tries to install LILO instead of grub by default but gives an error saying it can't find /sbin/lilo I believe but am not positive of the path the error referenced. I had successfully installed alpha 2 in a virtual machine but alpha 3 is kicking my butt. I am still downloading the dvd to see if things go smoother that way but for testing purposes if you want me to continue trying to install into a vm from the isos, I am willing to invest some time. I also have an older machine that I KNOW worked fine with versions prior to SLED 10 but now SLED 10, opensuse 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 alpha 2 do NOT work with my network card. XP and vista work fine with it and I know I had suse 9. installed at one time on it but now there appears to be a problem with the tulip driver for that network card. I'm not skilled enough to know what steps to take to get an older version of the driver from an old distro to try and get it working but I am willing to learn if someone can direct me to the proper forum. Maybe since it doesn't work with the alpha 2 release, I can start a bug report after I get the dvd downloaded and try to install it to that physical machine with the network card problem. Please advise, I'm a big fan of linux but I am not a programmer. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=263207 ------- Comment #10 from aj@novell.com 2007-04-16 00:37 MST ------- Dan, I used ISOs as well. The mpt SCSI problem is known, see other bugs - use an IDE disk for now. You mix a lot of different problems, I suggest you ask on the opensuse mailing list for specific help. The bug that this report for is understood. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
