[Bug 443158] New: kaffeine plays video at double speed, audio at normal speed but overdriven, distorted and eve jerky
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=443158 Summary: kaffeine plays video at double speed, audio at normal speed but overdriven, distorted and eve jerky Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta4 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE3 AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: nice@titanic.nyme.hu QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other I will attach a video, made with my Canon POwerShot A520 camera. When I click on it in KDE4's dolphin, it calls KDE3's kaffeine to play it, but kaffeine plays that in a very distrubing way (try it yourself). The sound is like distorted by some software mixer/equalizer, and jerky in addition, and the video is played at double speed, so it end at half time. Interestingly, after some playback, kaffeine ceased to work, and started to complain about a missing encoder. (See the also attached image. It's in hungarian, but may be informative enough.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If I open the file from kaffeine's File menu, it starts playback but will complain again about the missing plugiin when playback ends. Earlier it was possible to open the video from the Desktop Folder. Beside this once I experienced the kaffeine couldn't be shut down while playing this video, but on anothe occasion I was able to shut it down during playback. BTW I run the 32 bit version of openSUSE11.1 Beta-4 with no additionan (i.e. packman) packages. I also have to say that the same problem existed in openSUSE 11.0 and it remained so even after installing kaffeine and xine packages from the packman repository. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The camera producing the AVI videos which are played fast-forward is an Olympus Mju 8. The problem occurs also in DigiKam 0.9.4, for instance. BTW: With the fresh Beta5 I had the same fast-forward playing occured ALSO in KDE 4.1.3 DragonPlayer (and DigiKam 0.10.0), using as phonon-xine as phonon-gstreamer. Installing or updating several codecs from the latest Packman and VideoLAN for OpenSUSE 11.1 repositories the problem seems to disappear in DragonPlayer with phonon-gstreamer. BTW2: I had this problem with OpenSUSE 11.0 and the latest updates also, but only in KDE 4.1.X. I'm even not sure what is the failing component or codec. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In addition, the audio is still heavily distorted (sounds to be overdriven). However, I realized, that this can be solved by a workaround: One has to disable the software mixer in Kaffeine on the settings -> xine player settings -> audio -> general settings tab, and the restart kaffeine. This software mixer have caused this type of heavy sound distortion for many openSUSE releases. Maybe new, reasonable Kaffeine/Xine default settings should be included in future openSUSE versions. Kaffeine plays this video at a CPU load comparable to that of MPlayer (about the half of the CPU power consumed by VLC), but there are still some problems remaining. Kaffeine plays the videos well, when invoked from Doplhin by right click -> open with -> Kaffeine/KDE3, but: -There is no sound when in try to open the video files from the File menu of Kaffeine! -Kaffeine cannot play videos, when invoked from the KDE4 desktop directory (right click -> open with...), but it complains about a missing plugin instead (see: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=443158#c2).
