[Bug 626409] New: Since a Kernel-update the Touchpad and Trackpoint will not function
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=626409 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=626409#c0 Summary: Since a Kernel-update the Touchpad and Trackpoint will not function Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bodow@snafu.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100723 SUSE/3.6.8-1.1 Firefox/3.6.8 I have a Lenovo SL 500 Laptop and have the a problem with the hardware-detection of the Touchpad an the Trackpoint under 11.2-64bit With 11.1 everything works fine. Everytime after booting there is no Trackpoint/Touchpad detected. But i do not think, that the problem is hal. I looked in my system and see hal etc. is installed in December and i know, that everything works in January. I made a little bit investigation and wrote the output of lshal, lsmod, lsusb, hwinfo and lspci in a file (working and not working). The difference in hal is that there are some devices not detected if Trackpoint/Touchpad is not working. These devices are: info.product = 'i8042 AUX3 port' (string) info.product = 'SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad' (string) info.product = 'Synaptics pass-through' (string) info.product = 'TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint' (string) info.product = 'i8042 AUX2 port' (string) info.product = 'i8042 AUX1 port' (string) info.product = 'i8042 AUX0 port' (string) info.product = 'R5C843 MMC Host Controller' (string) No difference in lspci. In lsmod is a difference, the modules ricoh_mmc and serio_raw will not be loaded if the devices Trackpoint/Touchpad are not detected. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install openSUSE 11.2-64bit from DVD 2.Do an update from the update repo 3.No more Trackpoint/Touchpad Actual Results: I did a little bit testing. I installed a test-Kernel from the Kernel-repo (2.6.34-44 and 2.6.34-48) and then after rebooting with the new Kernel everything works. So i wrote above, in January it was ok with the original Kernel. Then came an update in March or early April and then it happens. In 11.3 it is ok with the delivered Kernel. Expected Results: Trackpoint and Touchpad should be detected and work. It´s a Lenovo SL 500 Laptop with Intel Graphic GS 9300M, 4GB RAM, 320GB hdd and Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P7370 @ 2.00GHz If you need the outputs from lshal, lsusb, hwinfo or boot.msg let me know. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I second this and point to bug 623982: I have the same problems on a Dell Latitude D830.
And I must admit that these problems are intermittend; currently it works. kernel is 2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
