[Bug 1035240] New: 42.2 clean with all updates, no graphics on displayport with kms, works fine on same display with hdmi
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1035240 Bug ID: 1035240 Summary: 42.2 clean with all updates, no graphics on displayport with kms, works fine on same display with hdmi Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: abittner@opensuse.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- 42.2 clean with all updates, no graphics on displayport with kms, works fine on same display with hdmi Just installed a fresh 42.2 with a working internet connection, so it applied all the patches it could fetch right during install-time. Motherboard: F1A75-V PRO by Asus, with AMD cpu/gpu/apu all-in-one: AMD A6-3600 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics I have a dell monitor with hdmi and displayport ports available, so does this motherboard have displayport and hdmi (plus vga dsub15 and dvi-d). The installer (42.2 .iso image via usb-key) had the same problems, the dell monitor went into powersaving mode once it tried booting the setup process after the grub boot menu. Eventually I went for nokms or what that option is called in grub menu via F3 key, and it added some kernel boot parameter. Screen was slightly distorted and graphics performance was very slow but I could install and somewhat use this system. Even after actual boot into installed system with latest kernel and updates installed, and even after updating the motherboards bios to the latest available version (january 2015), it still fails to show pixels when using the displayport ports on the motherboard and monitor when using it with the default KMS way to do the graphics stuff. Trying the same steps and situations with a hdmi cable and connection between monitor and motherboard works fine, with or without kms, nokms and all. I have some dmesg logs with lots of errors in it related, e.g: [ 4.661842] [drm] radeon kernel modesetting enabled.
