The Dolphin File Manager you have chosen to include into opensuse is very good - its far better than konqueror being a file manager and web browser. That aside Dolphin is not stable and will freeze many times - I am getting closer in being able to reproduce. In this bug I have a Dolphin complete crash
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce: 1.Back trace after Dolphin complete crash 2. 3.

--- Comment #3 from Karsten König remur@gmx.net 2009-02-27 13:11:11 MST --- Your backtraces contain no usable information as you are missing the -debuginfo packages: http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:KDE#Useful_Crash_Reports
Also please try to extend what you have been doing when the crash occured, 'using dolphin' can't help us reproduce. Please also add which version of kde you are using and make sure you have an updated system.

--- Comment #4 from Scott Couston alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au 2009-02-27 15:35:26 MST --- Apologies its a KDE4.0 in opensuse 11.0 - The uploads consist of data errors that did NOT come from a backtrace - Sorry for the poor description. When Dolphin crashed the warning message said that it could not provide a backtrace and that the crash handler failed, however it did dump and as there was data presented, I have included it in upload. I included the Plasma dump as well as it could possibly provide the reason why the crash handler was unable to provide a backtrace. - Again this was only data I could present.
My Apologies for skipping over the Reproduce field. I cannot re-produce no matter how I try, however I have experienced Dolphin freezing, normally when it is trying to display a large amount of Directories and files with most all Categories checked on - I will do further work on that issue and when I can reliable reproduce I will open a bug on that sole issue. - Gut feeling is that Dolphin will not allocate itself with the amount of RAM it needs to display multiple tabs and vast amounts of file and directory details - But gut feelings a not worth anything in our technical world. :-)
If there is nothing valuable in the dumps I have uploaded please close as invalid. - I am not quite up to speed on read dump nor back traces;-)

Oh boy, this is in fact still in the support cycle but a mess to fix, as a lot has changed since 4.0.4 and backporting patches just a lot of work =(
I'd recommend using KDE4.1.4 from KDE4:Stable for you, it is nearly the same as in openSUSE 11.1 but you don't need to update the rest of your system and you are going to like the other improvements as well. If you decide using that repository please check on every update suggestion KDE won't do a major version bump, KDE 4.2 or KDE4.3 will propably be moved in there in the future (September 2009 or later according to current plans) See here how to add the repository: http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Repositories

Please read http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:KDE#Useful_Crash_Reports , it describes when a backtrace becomes useful, you need the -debuginfo packages otherwise it will contain no function names etc which are necessary.
If there is nothing valuable in the dumps I have uploaded please close as invalid. - I am not quite up to speed on read dump nor back traces;-)
Your bug is valid, but there is no time to fix it, especially as it is not easy to reproduce. If you don't mind, please close it as wontfix =)

--- Comment #7 from Scott Couston alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au 2009-03-01 00:07:13 MST --- Understand your issue and massive overwork - I am not one to install different KDE versions than the one that comes with an opensuse RC - Despite all the KDE 4.0 errors known or otherwise a decision, out of your hand was made that opensuse 11.0 reached a RC - It obviously had many many issues technical people at suse.de had knowledge about.
I would strongly suggest that Management remove opensuse 11.0 from RELEASE! OR its gets remastered with KDE 4.1.4 and remastered!
I know blowing off steam is not constructive in any manner,so please excuse my frustration, let alone all the tecks, at the decision to release opensuse 11.0. In my first year as a commercial programmer, If I added new code or modified code in any module and had tested it on Offline Systems and then authorised it to be put up online and it fell over - I would have lost my job right then!
But back to reality - I hope our decision makers who say GO to any release have learnt a bitter lesson with 11.0 KDE4.0 in what constitutes a RC and if necessary take it to RC10 if it needs to be done, prior to open release.
