http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575551 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575551#c0 Summary: Application-browser starting a new instance every time it is opened and never closing Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: badshah400@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=339809) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=339809) strace file for application-browser User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.6) Gecko/20091201 SUSE/3.5.6-1.1.1 Firefox/3.5.6 The application-browser (ab) in Gnome [when one clicks on more applications in the main menu] starts a new instance every time it is opened, and each of these instances stays in the memory using up RAM even though one closes it or it closes by itself after clicking on some application listed in it. So after a long session there are about 12 instances of ab running each taking up around 8-9 MB of RAM. I have attached strace logs here for the application-browser. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open Gnome-system-monitor (or any other process monitoring tool) 2.Click on "More Applications" in the main-menu and close the ab. 3.Repeat process a few times, and look at the number of application-browser processes in gnome-system-monitor. Actual Results: There are multiple instances of application-browser running Expected Results: There should be one. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Nothing on this yet? I am stuck with 12-15 application-browser instances each consuming ~ 9-10 MB of RAM, and this seems to happen only on my computer. I have noticed that there is one instance in many other computers running openSUSE 11.2 + official updates. I tried turning off all but a single menu entry to see if it was some .desktop item that was doing the evil, but even then the same problem occurs. Please help. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I don't yet know if it was an update that did the trick, or the removal of the rogue application-browser item. Marking as fixed for now, will open on re-sighting. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
