[Bug 334813] New: 10.2 -> 10.3 upgrade makes suspend to RAM non-functional
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=334813 Summary: 10.2 -> 10.3 upgrade makes suspend to RAM non-functional Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- OS 10.2 -- out of the box S2R didn't work (on resume screen was not restored) so I have to add some extra flags. Since then -- worked like a charm. OS 10.3 (__UPGRADED__), in theory it should work exactly like in 10.2. But: a) instead of suspend screen is only blanked out b) instead of resume nothing happens I managed to switch to console and back to KDE and I get the screen. Few seconds later: c) the video memory was corrupted (only random, multicolor mess on the screen) Shutdown, ~15 minutes later, power on again: d) screen is dead I shutted down it again, rebooted and luckily nothing is physically damaged. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What moved? There's a bug relating to upgrading and the suspend package (Bug 326234), but it's not about a config file. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In 10.2 there was a file: /etc/pm/config this file (I don't know why) was renamed to /etc/pm/config.rpmsave and what's more the executable flag was turned on (what for?). This file should be rather moved to config.d so configuration would be seen by powersave and suspen2ram would work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The other report is about omission in documentation. This report is about bug in upgrading system. I don't care what documentation says, I don't care where new config files are BUT if the directory was changed all config files should be moved during upgrade. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I know that there will be some configurations that will suffer from this, but there is no elegant way to solve that problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
